Plants to grow in a greenhouse?

Once you have got your greenhouse prepared, it can be tricky to know precisely what to grow. All kinds of things will grow in a greenhouse, and most will grow at least better than they might outside it, but there is not much point in doing all that work simply to finish up with a crop of a little bigger potatoes. The 2 things that most of the people grow in greenhouses are tomatoes and cucumbers, as they grow quite badly outside but very well within.

They're also straightforward to grow, as the seeds available are of such top of the range : regularly you'll be able to grow quite good tomatoes and cucumbers even if you are too pointless at gardening to even follow directions on the seed packet correctly. After a bit, though, this gets lifeless. Strawberries are an excellent start, as they're really nice, costly in shops, but not so hard to grow yourself. There is a reason why farmers have competitions to see who can grow the most important melon : melon-growing is more of a skill than a science, and it's extremely tough to master.

Typically, the secret is to give your melons as much support as you can : as fast as the plant starts growing, support it with a length of string tied to the roof of your greenhouse, and once melons begin to appear, support them with string nets. One more thing to be conscious of is that it is straightforward to incidentally drown melons if you water them usually, so you need to set up an alternative system, for example a pipe leading straight to the plant's roots.
